If you are using SAP Business Workflows and have not yet moved on to Extended Notifications, you should enable them ASAP.
Its a very simple configuration which will allow all your approvers to approve / reject work items from their Outlook mailbox, without logging and checking the item into the portal.
This is especially a very crucial feature for top management.
